BITTEN, Joseph William

1893 - 1986

Born at Sudbury, Suffolk on 25 February 1893, son of Frederick William Bitten and his wife Jessie née Brown, who married at Sudbury in 1888 and went to live at Mile End, London where Frederick was a railway porter. Joseph's 31 year old father died in August 1896 when Jessie married again at Sudbury in 1898, Isaac Goody, a matmaker. In 1911 a 17 year old silk weaver living with his mother and stepfather at 67-68 Church Street, Sudbury. A painter in oils he exhibited at Gainsborough House and Sudbury Library and in 1980 exhibited at Christchurch Mansion, Ipswich an oil 'Suffolk Horse Ploughing'. He died at Colchester, Essex in 1986.
