WILLIAMSON, Aline Mary

1906 - 1987

Aline Mary Williamson was born at Castle Farm, Worksop, Nottinghamshire on 11 February 1906, only child of Alfred David Williamson, an electrical engineer, and his wife Ethel Mary née Watson (16 March 1873-4 August 1963), who married at All Saints' Church, Ecclesall Bierlow, Sheffield, Yorkshire on 28 July 1898. Aline studied at the Ipswich School of Art working in watercolour. Living at 16 Lower Brook Street, Ipswich, she exhibited at the Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours and was a member of the Ipswich Art Club from 1938 but had exhibited from Broomhill, Woodbridge in 1932 'Poppies' and 'Barque, Winterlude, at Ipswich', in 1933 'Slaughden Quay' and 'Walberswick Fishing Boats', in 1935 'Willow Farm, Hasketon' and 'Ben Nevis', in 1937 'Start Bay, South Devon' and 'The Pommern at Ipswich' and exhibited at their centenary exhibition in 1974, a watercolour 'Beeches at Butley' and in 1978 she exhibited from 11 Warren Hill Road, Woodbridge, Suffolk two paintings 'Breton Market 1' and 'Breton Market 2'. In 1939, Aline and her widowed mother, were living at 20 Thomas Street, Cirencester but returned to continue to live at Woodbridge. Aline Mary Williamson died at 11 Warren Hill, Woodbridge on 3 December 1987, she was unmarried. Her portrait was painted by Edmund Van Someren and is in the Ipswich Borough Council Collection and another watercolour of her was painted by Cor Visser.
