PRENTICE, Gertrude Minnie
Gertrude Minnie Prentice was born at Stowmarket, Suffolk in 1868, eldest of the three daughters of Edward Henry Prentice (1838-11 August 1871), a chemical manure manufacturer who employed over 100 men, and his wife Sarah Pitcairn née Webb (7 August 1837-6 May 1927), who married at Combs, Stowmarket on 14 May 1861. In 1871, Gertrude was a 2-year-old living, at Ipswich Road, Stowmarket with her parents, 32-year-old Edward and 33-year-old Sarah, with two siblings, Ethel 1 and newly born Constance and they retained three indoor staff, her father Edward, together with his brother, was killed later that year in the explosion at their gun-cotton factory at Stowmarket. In 1891, Gertrude was living at Verandah Cottage, 29 Ipswich Road, Stowmarket with her widowed mother and two unmarried sisters and she was still living there in 1911. A painter in oil and watercolour she exhibited at Ipswich Art Club from Verandah Cottage, 29 Ipswich Street, Stowmarket in 1891 a watercolour, 'Home Sketch (interior)' and in 1893 oils 'No Help for the Blind' and 'A Study'. Gertrude Minnie Prentice died at Verandah Cottage, Ipswich Road, Stowmarket on 12 March 1925, aged 56, she was unmarried being survived by her mother.
