STAINS, Louisa Frances

1849 - 1906

Born at Hythe, Kent in 1849 and baptised at Ruckinge, Kent on 28 July 1849, daughter of Edwin Stains, a Scottish annuitant, and his wife Ermenia Elizabeth née Simmons, who married at Strand, London in 1844. Educated at Cambridge University and in 1881 was living at 268 Camdon Road, St Pancras, London the home of her 93 year old Simmons grandmother, Eliza but by 1891 as Frances had moved, with her 40 year old brother William, to Highlands, Warrington Road, Ipswich. A painter in oil of landscapes and still life and a member of the Ipswich Fine Art Club 1890-1891 and exhibited in 1890 'Walberswick, Windy Day' and 'Apples-A Study'. In 1901, as Staines and aged 38[sic], she was boarding at 4 The Crescent, Ipswich and died at Ipswich, unmarried, in 1906 and there is a monumental memorial in Ipswich Municipal Cemetery.
