TIBBENHAM, Agnes Edith

1894 - 1975

As Agnes Edith Cooke, she was born at Ipswich on 10 February 1894, daughter of Arthur John Cook[e] and his wife Aidia Rose née Nash, who married at Ipswich in 1890. Agnes married at Ipswich in 1919, Percy Tibbenham and painted under the of Tibbenham. Agnes was a painter in oil and watercolour of flowers and landscapes and as Mrs Percy Tibbenham, a member of Ipswich Art Club 1925-1956 and was a regular exhibitor showing at least twenty-eight works 1925-1950, sometimes as Mrs. P. Tibbenham, including in 1925, watercolours 'Sproughton', in 1928 'The Meadows at Martlesham', in 1932 she exhibited from 'Maryland Cottage', Crabbe Street, Ipswich five watercolours, 'Azaleas', 'Chrysanthemums', 'Early Roses', 'Marriage's Mill, Felixstowe, from Walton Battery' and 'Gainsborough Heath, Ipswich', in 1933 an oil 'Anenomes' and two watercolours 'The Forge, Claydon' and 'Caravans at Wherstead', in 1935 'Anenomes'. In 1939, an artist, living at 18 Crabbe Street, Ipswich with her husband Percy and daughter Mary Ann [Baker] who was born on 17 March 1920, a shorthand typist. In 1941 Agnes was still exhibiting at the Ipswich Art Club from 18 Crabbe Street, Ipswich, two works 'Looking towards Pin Mill' and 'Yellow Roses', in 1946 an oil 'Purple and Yellow Tulips' and a watercolour 'Spring', in 1947 two watercolours 'Spring Flowers' and 'The Blue Jar', in 1948 an oil 'Flowerpiece', in 1949 an oil 'Winter Glory' and in 1950 two oils 'Spring' and 'Mimosa' and a watercolour 'Shingle Street' but does not seem to exhibited after 1950 about which time she became an hon. member. Agnes Edith Tibbenham was of 7 Victoria Road, Felixstowe, Suffolk when she died at Eye, Suffolk on 26 December 1975.
