COBB, John Francis

1946 - ?

Born at Ipswich in 1946, son of Francis William Cobb (1914-1994) and his wife Madge Hannah née Dunthorne (1910-1990), who married at Ipswich in 1942. He studied at Yarmouth College of Art, Coventry College of Art and the Royal College of Art. His sculptures take several forms including head themes such as in the Art Council's Head Case IV if 1978. Among Cobb's showings was at the 8th Paris Biennale of 1973, the 1977 Silver Jubilee Exhibition in Battersea Park, and at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park in 1979-1980 and he exhibited at the Royal West of England Academy Sculpture Exhibition 1993 and had solo exhibitions at Ann Berthoud Gallery 1991 and at North House Gallery, Manningtree, Essex. Cobb won the Walter Neurath Award for Sculpture in 1971 and the Sainsbury Award in 1974. He held a Henry Moore Fellowship in Sculpture at Norwich School of Art 1985-1988 and lived at Woodbridge, Suffolk.
