PHILLIPPS, Amy Florence
As Amy Florence Colville, she was born at Baylham Rectory, near Ipswich in 1839 and baptised at Baylham St Peter Church on 23 April 1839, fourth child and third daughter of Revd William Acton Colville (1804-20 April 1859) and his wife Louisa Marianne Susan Frances Kelso (1810-12 September 1867), daughter of Scottish born Major General Robert Kelso (1761-13 October 1823) of Bungay, Suffolk, Louisa and William married at Lawshall, Suffolk on 15 May 1834. In 1851 they were living at Baylham Rectory, 46-year-old William and 41-year-old Louisa, with children William Edward Acton, Louisa Marion, Ethel Mary, Amy Florence, Margaret Ellen, Alethea Katherine, Elizabeth Harriet Grace, and they had a further children Elizabeth Harriet Grace, Agnes Phillippa and Adela Constance. In 1861, her mother Louisa was a widow, living at Horringer House, Bury St Edmund's, Suffolk with most of her family including Amy. Amy married at St Mary's Church, Bury St Edmund's on 27 June 1865, Major Charles Burch Phillipps of Barham Hall, near Ipswich. As Mrs C. Phillipps, a member of Ipswich Art Club from its start in 1875 until she resigned on the death of her husband in 1883. She exhibited from Barham Hall in 1878, two watercolours, 'Blackwater Bridge, County Kerry' and 'Pond Hall, Gainsborough Lane, Ipswich'. Amy Florence Phillipps died at Claydon Lodge, near Ipswich on 8 January 1919.
