PYNE, Catharine AnnIe

1871 - 1944

Sometimes Katherine Annie or just Annie, was born at Moseley, Surrey in 1871, eldest daughter of Thomas Pyne [q.v.] and his first wife Katharine Susan née Salter, who married at Hampstead in 1871. In 1881, a 9 year old living at 56 Upper Park Road, Hampstead with her parents, 37 year old Thomas and 32 year old Katherine and two sibling sisters Evelina 8 [Warden q.v.] and Mary Florence 7 [q.v.], and ten years later were still living at Upper Park Road, Hampstead, when the three girls noted as 'art student'. In 1901, a 29 year old 'satin wood painter' living at 82 Huddleston Road, Islington, London with her two sisters Eva 28, a portrait painter and Mary 26, a satin wood painter, their parents are missing from the 1901 census probably due to their move to Dedham, Essex. A member of Ipswich Art Club 1897-1898 exhibiting from 17 Burghley Road, Highate, London in 1896 seven watercolours 'A Rural Garden', 'A Wiltshire Lane', 'Twilight', 'The Downs, Wroughton, Wilts', 'Wet Weather, Flatford', 'An Apple Orchard' and 'An Orchard at Wroughton, Wilts' but did not exhibit the following year. In 1939 she was living at the home of her married sister Evangeline Warden at Ploughley, Oxfordshire, where she died in 1944, aged 72, she was unmarried. One of her watercolours 'A Farm at Gt Missenden' was sold at Keys of Alylsham, Norfolk in 1994.
