SMITH, Emily Mary

1840 - 1902

As Emily Mary Moore, she was born at Great Easton, Leicestershire in 1840, daughter of Hugh William Moore and his wife Caroline née Tirrell, who married at Great Easton earlier that year. She married at Islington in 1859 Walter Azemberg Smith [q.v.] who firstly managed and from 1867 owned 'The Italian Studio' a photographic artists business at 18 Upper Brook Street, Ipswich. Emily was an artist in oils but specialised in 'life size portaits' in crayon, which were sold for 3 guineas, she also in painted tray pictures. She and her husband moved to Southamptono in 1884 where he kept a similar business 'Debenham & Smith' but whether she continued to provide artistic sketches is not known. She died at Southampton in 1902, aged 60[sic], she had five children.
