WILSON, Elizabeth Grace (Gertrude)
As Elizabeth Gertrude Wilson, she was born at Gravesend, Kent on 7 March 1871, her second name is usually used as Grace, second of the six children of Revd Hugh Carruthers Wilson (1839-4 September 1909), a Scottish born Presbyterian minister, and his wife Julia Randall (2 April 1835-1 January 1906), youngest daughter of Edward Mayor Randall of Southampton, who married at St Andrew's Church, Southampton on 22 December 1866. In 1881, Elizabeth was a 10-year-old, living at 61 Pevensey Road Eastbourne, Sussex with her parents, 42-year-old Hugh and 46-year-old Julia, with siblings Winifred Julia 11, Alfred Carruthers 8, Annie Florence 7, Evelyn Mary 5 and Basil Major 2. Elizabeth was educated at Eastbourne, but by 1901 was a 30-year-old art mistress at a Southwold local secondary school, living at 7 Dunwich Road, Southwold, Suffolk and ten years later a 'drawing teacher & artist (painter), living at Hermon, Waveney Road, Beccles, Suffolk. In 1939, a retired art teacher, living at 35 Mersham Gardens, Worthing, Sussex with her unmarried sister Evelyn, also a retired schoolmistress. A flower painter who exhibited at Walker Art Gallery and as E. Gertrude Wilson at the Royal Academy. As Elizabeth Grace Wilson, she was of Wingfield Cottage, Dickleburgh, Norfolk when she died at Scole Lodge Nursing Home, Diss, Norfolk on 12 September 1956, aged 85, she was unmarried.
