TAYLOR, Elizabeth Hannah
As Elizabeth Hannah Battye, she was born at Birstall, Dewsbury, Yorkshire on 18 January 1856 and baptised Birstall on 28 February 1856, only daughter of John Battye (1812-19 August 1899), a solicitor, and his wife Hannah née Kellett. Elizabeth married at Birstall Parish Church, Dewsbury on 10 June 1880, Revd Robert Fetzer Taylor (7 August 1846-11 November 1923), who was vicar of Gomershall, Yorkshire 1877-1901. In 1911, Elizabeth was a 55-year-old, living at Grundisburgh House, near Ipswich with her 64-year-old husband Robert, and their 22-year-old daughter Mary Audrey, who was born at Gomershall and they retained four indoor servants. Her husband died at Grundisburgh in 1923 and Elizabeth continued living at Grundisburgh and in 1933, as Mrs R. F. Taylor, exhibited at the Ipswich Art Society from Grundisburgh House, two works, an oil 'St Malo at Twilight' and a watercolour 'Dawn at Alassio', this watercolour is also noted in the catalogue in error under Miss R. F. Taylor. In 1939, Elizabeth was still at Grundisburgh House, with daughters Elizabeth Hilda (3 June 1881-1975) and Mary Audrey [Trench] (15 December 1888-6 June 1972) and son John Fetzer Greenwood (14 February 1884-22 January 1963), then all listed as unmarried. Elizabeth Hannah Taylor died at Grundisburgh in 1940.
