MAYER, Eric

1903 - 1971

Born at 41 Richmond Street, Wigan, Lancashire on 12 June 1903, son of James Mayer, clothier & tailor, and his wife Elizabeth née Warburton, who married at Ashton-under-Lyne in 1902. Educated at Wigan Grammar School and studied at Manchester Municipal School of Art 1920-1927. Eric married in 1929, Olive Busby (28 November 1903-1999), and their only son was Anthony Hugh Mayer (1932-1995), the noted film director, journalist and artist, they also had a daughter. In 1939 Olive was living at 5 Tye Terrace, Deudraeth, Merionethshire and Eric was living at 265 Park Lane, Macclesfield, Cheshire and was headmaster of Machester Junior School of Art, a position he held until 1949 when he took the position as principal at Ipswich School of Art. An interior designer and teacher and a member and exhibitor at Ipswich Art Club 1950-1956, he had also exhibited Manchester Spring Exhibition. He lived at The Limes, Rushmere St Andrew, Ipswich before moving to Stowmarket in Suffolk where he died in 1971.
