CRUSO, Revd Henry Edmund Tilsley

c.1839 - 1929

Born at Hook Norton, Oxfordshire, son of Edmund Cruso, a surgeon, and his wife Louisa née Parry who married at Banbury in 1839, it is probable that he was born in 1839, a twin with his sister Catherine, as his father died in late 1839. Educated at Exeter College, Oxford and took holy orders. In 1851, living at 1 Old Town Stratford-upon-Avon with his widowed mother Louisa and were still there in 1861 with siblings, 20 year old Catherine and 18 year old Henry. His mother Louisa died at Sevenoaks, Kent in 1868, aged 61. Henry married at Canterbury Cathedral, Kent on 12 February 1867, Frances Mary Oke Alford and in 1871, giving his age as 32, was vicar of Bramford, near Ipswich living at the Vicarage with his 32 year old wife and 1 year old daughter Louisa Mabel [q.v.]. By 1896 they had moved to the Vicarage, Tunstall, Faversham, Kent and in 1901 he gives his age as 58. His wife died at Tunstall Vicarage in 1904, aged 66 and Henry followed in 1929, aged 87. Listed as a member of the Ipswich Fine Art Club in 1874, but this must be incorrect as the 1st exhibition was not until 1876 and maybe an error for 1894 and his daughter Louisa Mabel Cruso [q.v.]. His son was Henry Alford Antony Cruso (1874-1947), father of Thalassa Cruso.
