Ian Moore

Ian Colin Moore was born in Spilsby, Lincolnshire in August 1957, son of Colin E. Moore and his wife Betty F. Staples, who married at Spilsby in 1956. Ian completed a course with the Open College of the Arts and for several years a member of the Little Garth painting group led by Colchester artist and tutor, Stephen Taylor, based at Dedham, Essex. By living at Mulberry Cottage, The Street, Bawdsey, Woodbridge, Suffolk and working full-time at Felixstowe Ferry Boatyard, required him to a commute by a clinker self-built rowing-boat over the River Deben or, on stormy days, a long drive. His part-time occupation of painting is based at his studio at Butley, near Woodbridge where he paints in oils, most of his work being depictions of elements within the coastal landscape, both locally and on the Hebridean Islands which he visits annually. Recently Ian has been concentrating on trees and hedgerows in local landscapes with the importance of accuracy of colour and detail. He has exhibited in Suffolk at The Cut Halesworth; Blackthorpe Barn, Rougham; Suffolk Open Studios; Brandeston Village Hall; Pond Gallery at Snape Maltings; Peter Pears Gallery, Aldeburgh; Spiral Gallery, Debenham; Bury St Edmund's Art Gallery; Taplin Gallery, Woodbridge and elsewhere.
