Esmond Bingham

Born in Belfast, Northern Ireland in 1948. Educated at Ulster College of Art and Design 1969; Wolverhampton Polytechnic 1972 gaining an Hons. degree in Fine Art/Sculpture; Goldsmiths College (ATC), London 1973 and at Norwich Schools of Art gaining an M.A. in Fine Art. He married in 1987, artist Lindsay Harris and until recently was an Associate Senior Lecturer in Design at Middlesex University. Bingham constructs using a broad range of everyday materials, his drawings are sometimes presented in conjunction with these works and are filled with urgency and energy. He works across a variety of media both 2D and 3D and on scales ranging from environmental to miniature and is characterised by a strong interest in construction and a delight in the unexpected in common everyday materials. Although essentially non-representational, his work is concerned with the physical, emotional and psychological language of everyday things. He lives and works in Hackney, London and with his family at 8 Seven Gardens, Woodbridge, Suffolk. He has exhibited widely throughout the UK as well as Ireland, Finland, Belgium and Russia.
