SAUMAREZ, Christine

1916 - 1998

Born on 31 July 1916, daughter of James St Vincent Broke Saumarez (18891969) and his wife Gunhild née Balck (1889-1985), daughter of Maj-Gen. Sir Victor Gustaf Balck, who married on 30 April 1914. A niece of Marion Saumarez [q.v.] and sister of Veronica Saumarez [q.v.]. She exhibited at the Ipswich Fine Art Club from Broke Hall, Nacton, Ipswich in 1932, two watercolours 'Trees and Levington Farm' and 'Assisi'. Her father inherited as 5th Baron Saumarez in 1937 and she married at St Margaret's Westminster, London on 15 April 1944, equestrian champion Sir Henry [Harry] Morton Llewellyn, 3rd Baronet (18 July 191115 November 1999) and was the mother of three children including David St Vincent (Dai) [1946-2009], who inherited the title, and Roderic Victor (Roddy) [born 1947] who had an eight-year affair with Princess Margaret, Countess of Snowdon and inherited his brother's baronetcy, and Anna Christina {born 1956]. She died on 20 April 1998
