ARCEDECKNE, Anne Harriet

1795 - 1878

As Anne Harriet Beckford she was born in 1795, daughter of Francis Love Beckford of Basing Park, Hampshire. She married at St George Hanover Square, Westminster, London on 29 August 1816, her cousin Andrew Arcedeckne (1780-1849), High Sheriff of Suffolk 1819-1820 and Member of Parliament for the rotten borough of Dunwich 1826-1831, of Glevering Hall, Wickham Market, Suffolk. The Glevering Hall Estate was purchased in 1791 by Chaloner Arcedeckne (1743-1809), a plantation owner in Jamaica, who built the present mansion in 1794 to a design of John White the Elder, and his son Andrew Arcedeckne expanded the building 1834-5 to a design of Decimus Burton which was purchased in 1935 by the Hurlock family and remains a private house. The Arcedeckne's also had a London house at Cock Yard, Westminster, London from where she was an art student of Henry Bright [q.v.] sometime during his twenty years of practice in London 1836-1856. Andrews and Anne has issue Louisa Arcedeckne (1817-1898) and Andrew (1822-1871). Anne died on 27 March 1878.
