CHOLMELEY, Blanche Emily Roberta

1861 - 1948

Blanche Emily Roberta Darling, was born at Eyke, Suffolk on 4 January 1861, fourth of the seven children of Revd James George Darling, then rector of Eyke, and his second wife Mary Emily née Johnson [Darling q.v.], who married on 7 December 1854, his first wife was Louisa Susanna née Molyneux, who died on 17 August 1853, without issue. In 1883, as Miss B. Darling, she exhibited at the Woodbridge Industrial & Art Exhibition at the Lecture Hall, Woodbridge a watercolour 'Basket, Jar, Apples and Cocoa Nut'. Blanche married at Eyke in 1888, Robert Francis Cholmeley (1862-1947), O.B.E., a school headmaster and an author, and their son was Lt. Hugh Ralph, born 1891, who was killed in action in 1915, aged 24. As Blanche Cholmeley, she exhibited from The Cottage, Blaxhall at the Ipswich Art Club in 1933, a watercolour 'Cottage Flowers' and in 1935 an oil 'The Yellow Mug'. She died at Mill Cottage, Blaxhall, Suffolk on 2 April 1948, aged 87.
